History

The Coolidge Law Firm was founded by the Honorable Clyde R. Coolidge, who has practiced law since 1963. In 1969, he opened his own law practice in Somersworth and was joined in January of 1970 by Robert L. Cullinane, and they practiced together at Coolidge & Cullinane for many years. In 1967, Clyde ran for and was elected mayor of Somersworth and he served two terms.

Clyde Coolidge was appointed by Governor Meldrim Thomson, Jr. to a district court judgeship for Somersworth and Rollinsford. He served on the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council for many years as well. Clyde continued practicing law at Coolidge Professional Association and serving as a judge until April of 2003 when he retired.

Clyde began teaching at New Hampshire College during his Air Force years. He continued teaching there and also added a class in Federal Taxation at the University of New Hampshire, teaching for approximately 20 years. He was also a trustee from 1972 to 1991 on the board of Seacoast Savings Bank, formerly Merchant’s Savings Bank, in Dover. Clyde also served on the Board of Trustees of Berwick Academy during the 1980s.

Peter Mathieu worked with him at the court from 1979–1983 as his probation director. Attorney Coolidge took him on as a law clerk, then as an associate, and finally as a partner.

Peter Mathieu is proud to still be with The Coolidge Law Firm. In 1987, Brian Barrington joined and later Linda Mayrand complemented the team at the law firm. In 2017, the merger with Krasner Law Office brought Manny Krasner on board and Dick Krans joined the team as Of Counsel.
